FAQ

What is impact modified polypropylene?

Impact modified PP is polypropylene blended with elastomers (typically EPDM, POE, or EPR) at 5-25% loading. The dispersed rubber particles absorb impact energy and arrest crack propagation, dramatically improving notched Izod impact strength from ~3 kJ/m² (neat PP) to >50 kJ/m².

When should I use glass fiber reinforced PA6 vs reinforced PP?

Use PA6 GF when you need higher strength (180 MPa vs 85 MPa), higher heat resistance (HDT 210°C vs 155°C), and better chemical resistance. Use reinforced PP when cost is critical, moisture absorption must be minimized, or the application requires lower density (~1.12 vs ~1.35 g/cm³).

Can reinforced plastics be colored?

Yes, but color matching reinforced compounds is more challenging than unreinforced grades. Glass fiber affects appearance (visible fibers, surface texture). YicaiPlas offers masterbatch solutions specifically formulated for reinforced substrates with optimized pigment wetting and dispersion.

How does temperature affect impact performance?

Most thermoplastics lose impact resistance at low temperatures due to increased molecular rigidity. Impact modified PP retains toughness to approximately -20°C. PA6 GF shows less temperature sensitivity due to fiber reinforcement. For cryogenic applications, specialty grades with modified impact systems are available.

What is the typical glass fiber content for reinforced compounds?

Common glass fiber loadings are 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. 30% GF is the most widely used grade, offering the best balance of strength, stiffness, and processability. Higher loadings increase strength and HDT but reduce impact toughness and increase wear on processing equipment.
